About the Character

Personality

Jennifer, at times, feels completely confident in herself and her progressive decisions, but other times, she feels lost. As she recently completed University in the Blackwoods, she wants to identify with the new wave of fiery, educated, usually hairy women who desire to overthrow the patriarchy and be liberated from societal oppression. She finds herself making brash decisions to join that movement so she can prove to the traditionalists that she will not be forced into anything against her will. However, she still holds onto some of her family virtues and traditions because she does not want to displease her father and her brother, her two role models. Sometimes you can find her mischievously wandering around alone. She doesn't like confrontation with large groups. She clings to her brother because he is the only one in the Valley she knows and trusts.

Backstory

Jennifer is the younger twin of Matthew II. They come from House Skinner of the Blackwoods. Their father, Matthew I, is the warden of the Harbor District, the state’s capital and home of bureaucratic Blackwoods politicians. Matthew I is a good, moral man who wants his children to have opportunities he never had. He knows Jennifer wants to see new lands, so he thinks Jennifer’s best option is to travel to the Valley with her brother. Her father wants her to find a man of nobility to marry so she can have the support and resources to live apart from her parents and the establishment of the Blackwoods.

Summary

Jennifer loves her family and is grateful for her upbringing, but even more, she longs for independence and adventure. She wants to see the world, be self-sufficient, and choose her own life path instead of being forced into alignments and traditions that the patriarchy has given her. She struggles with the dilemma of either honoring her family or living on her own.
